There has been a school in Sherborne since the time of King Alfred. This school, where King Alfred himself was taught, was re-founded in 1550 as King Edward’s grammar school and is today known simply as Sherborne School. Here are a list of other educational facilities in Sherborne:

Pre-Schools and Infants

Sherborne School’s pre-prep department opened in 1993 and now has a pupil roll of over sixty. The school admits children from the thirty months to 7 years and has its own fully equipped, purpose-built classrooms with experienced, well-qualified staff providing an excellent ratio of teachers to children.
Sherborne Westend Preschool offers care, learning and play for children aged from 2 – 5 years. Their hours are Monday-Friday during term time between 9am-12noon.

Lewes ton School is an independent day and boarding school for girls. The school motto, ‘Gaudere et Bene Facere’ – ‘Rejoice and Do Well’ dates from the seventeenth century.
Sherborne Girls is more than one-hundred years old. It is mainly a boarding school for girls aged between 11 and 18 with a fine academic reputation.
